JODY BROCK IRWIN, GRUVER
August 28, 2025
On August 5, 2025, at home in Gruver, Texas, and surrounded by loved ones, Jody Brock Irwin earned her wings after 66 remarkable years filled with laughter, generosity, and love. Jody's arms, house, and heart were always open to family, friends, children of friends, and friends of friends. Known for her fabulous sense of humor, her generous spirit, and perfectly delivered one-liners, Jody brought the fun wherever she went. She was always up for long conversations around the kitchen table, yet could say everything on her mind with just the raise of an eyebrow. Whether cheering on the Hounds, whipping up a meal with Clint manning the grill, or welcoming another dog into her unofficial canine retirement home, Jody's love and loyalty knew no bounds.
Jody was born on April 28, 1959, in Amarillo and moved with her family in 1967 to Canadian, Texas, where she lived until she attended college. She studied at Texas Tech and Oklahoma State before graduating from Texas A&M in 1983 with a degree in Education. It was there she met "Clinty" after catching his eye at the Dixie Chicken. The couple first settled in Dimmit, where Jody taught, but Gruver soon became their beloved home. She worked alongside Clint at the veterinary clinic while raising their family and serving their community. Jody gave her time, talents, and resources generously and quietly: as a board member for Ceta Canyon, a volunteer at Open Door and Meals at the Manor, a Sunday school and substitute teacher, and an active member of the Methodist church. She lived with a servant's heart, always looking for ways to lighten someone else's load and showing up for people when they needed it most.
Of all her dreams, the one that shone brightest was becoming a grandmother. "JoJo," as she was lovingly known, embraced that role with the same warmth and humor she shared with everyone in her life. Jody leaves behind her husband, Dr. Clint Irwin; her sons and their young families -- Drs. Brock & Natalie Irwin and children Lou and Knute of Canadian, TX; Tanner Irwin and Emily Nusbaum of Portland, OR, and their newly arrived son, Harry Jody (born August 17, 2025); sisters Karen Murphy of Fredericksburg and Amelia Zesch of Mason, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will carry her memory forward. She now joins her parents, Joe and Doris Brock, and grandson, Zeke.
We invite you to celebrate her life on Friday, August 29, at Gruver Methodist Church at 11 a.m. (If you run on "Jody time," aim for 9) with Rev.Donald Ward officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Jody with a donation to Gruver Methodist Church, Hansford Hospice, Ceta Canyon, or the Lloyd Looper Scholarship.
