Local Cross-Country Teams Excel at District Meets, Head to Regionals
The Hansford County cross-country teams delivered outstanding performances at their district meets, with Gruver, Spearman, and Pringle Morse CISD athletes showcasing their skills and determination. The students achieved team championships and individual medalists at District and these runners will now set their sights on the regional competition in Lubbock. Their success is a testament to their hard work and the strength of the local cross-country programs.
Gruver Cross Country
The Gruver Varsity Boys team finished 3rd with 57 points, qualifying for regionals, led by 1st place medalist Gus Quintana. Cesar Trejo and Drew Puentes followed, placing 6th and 10th, respectively.
The Gruver Varsity Girls secured their 7th consecutive district championship, claiming 1st place with 17 points. Halle McLain, Carter Holloway, and Reese Grotegut swept the top three spots, followed by Jordan Schenk in 4th and Kynzli Briones in 8th.
The JV Girls team achieved a perfect score of 15 points, with Makenlei Vasquez, Mayren Lora, Quincy Schibler, Brynley McLaughlin, and Addie McLaughlin taking the top five medals.
The Gruver Junior High Girls also earned 1st place with 17 points, marking their 4th consecutive district title. Paisley Quirk claimed 1st, while Payton Merkel, Ashley Gonzalez, McRhea Cudd, Camila Davila, and Chloe McLaughlin rounded out the top nine.
The Junior High Boys, with only four runners, had strong individual performances, highlighted by Austin Baca’s 1st place finish.
Spearman Cross Country
The Spearman Varsity Boys qualified as a team for regionals, with individual medalists Payton Gage placing 7th, Maddox Ortiz 8th, and Jonathan Hernandez 9th.
The JV Girls finished 2nd as a team, led by Hannah Blan in 6th and Mia Dominguez in 8th.
Spearman’s JV Boys took 1st as a team, with Hector Diaz finishing 1st, Austin Dye 2nd, Cesar Hernandez 3rd, Jonathan Pipkin 5th, Bryce Swanson 6th, and Oaklee Womble 9th.
Pringle Morse Cross Country
Pringle Morse CISD’s Itzel Hernandez competed in district cross country at Boys Ranch, advancing to regionals with a 9th place finish and a time of approximately 14:35.!
As the Gruver, Spearman, and Pringle Morse CISD runners prepare for the regional meet in Lubbock on October 21, they carry the hopes of their schools and communities. With strong performances behind them and regional qualification in hand, these athletes are ready to compete at the next level and continue their remarkable seasons.
