Calistro L. Vela,85,of Spearman passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. Viewing will be on Saturday, November 25, 2023 (9:00a.m.- 9:00p.m.), Sunday, November 26, 2023 (1:00p.m.-9:00p.m.), and Monday, November 27, 2023 (9:00a.m.-12:00a.m.)
at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Spearman. Funer- al Mass will be on Monday, November 27,2023, 1:00p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spearman with Father Anthony Yanamala officiating. Burial will follow at Hansford Cemetery. Arrange- ments are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Calistro”Cisco”Vela was born to Barbara Lara Vela and Ramon Vela on September, 4, 1938 in LaCasita, Texas. He married the Love of his Life, Minerva Ozuna of 63 Years on March 13, 1960. They traveled all over for work, as Cisco was a field foreman for a number of years.
After their last child was born they decided to travel up to the northern panhandle where he changed career to farm- ing. Cisco and his brothers did custom harvesting. Cisco got his prairie dog exterminator license. He was well known for getting his job done.
He was a very hard worker and this legacy is what he left for his children. They all have great jobs, because Cisco, in- stilled in them to work hard for what they want in life and to live life to the fullest. He loved hunting, fishing and family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Bar- bara Vela and his brothers, Eusebio Vela, Guillermo Vela and Ramon Vela Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Minerva Vela of the home, chil- dren , Lucio and Sara Vela of Waka, Norma and Hector Her- mosillo of Perryton, Martin and Gloria Vela of, Spearman, Ruben Vela of Spearman, Luis and Claudia Vela of Spearman, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grand- children and his sister Josie De La Rosa.
