Schroeder Named Spearman Elementary Asst Principal

Cayla Schroeder has been named Gus Birdwell Elementary (GBE) Assistant Principal. Schroeder started her career at Spearman ISD thirty years ago. She student taught at GBE in first grade with classroom teacher, Cindy Clyburn, and she was hired to teach third grade after graduating from Oklahoma Panhandle State University the following semester. Schroeder taught third grade for several years before moving to second grade where she worked until being promoted to the assistant principal position.

Schroeder has served on multiple committees over her thirty years in education. She was instrumental in planning and implementing Balanced Literacy in grades kindergarten-third grade nearly twenty years ago, and the program continues today. She has served on the District Improvement Education Team, Campus Improvement Team, Results Driven Accountability Team, E-Club, and Teacher Incentive Allotment Committee. While she was working on her master’s degree, she organized and named the startup of an after-school program, Homework Hangout, for students in the English as a Second Language program.

Mrs. Olmos, GBE Principal, shared, “I am eager for Mrs. Schroeder to share her literacy experience with the staff. It is great to have someone who has invested thirty years in the district help lead the students and staff to success.”

“I am excited about the experience Mrs. Schroeder will be bringing to the team,” stated Superintendent, Dan Gist.
